INDIVIDUAL ADULT PSYCHOTHERAPY

The course and emphasis of psychotherapy is different depending on the needs and presenting problems of each person. I help individuals illuminate and understand the unhealthy beliefs we have about ourselves and where they come from, internal conflicts, and what underlies difficulties in relating to others. I provide a reliable and protective relationship for the expression of difficult or painful feelings that is necessary for psychological integration and growth. Psychological integration is a central tenet of healthy functioning and means that the different dimensions of who we are (i.e., our thoughts, feelings, and behavior) are active, connected, and work together without conflict. As painful and constricting states and feelings such as depression, anxiety, guilt, shame, and fear diminish, and psychological integration increases, we find ourselves becoming stronger, more focused and expansive as individuals. We have greater confidence and ability to develop and pursue personal goals and dreams. We also have a greater capacity and choice to form quality friendships and intimate relationships. We feel more joy and contentment in living.
